Enclosed Heavy Duty 4WD All Terrain Robot Kit

This is our recently revised Deluxe ATR kit. It has been revised to remove the back slope so more batteries and controls can be installed. It is an extremely rugged well built robot. It was originally designed as a water tight robot to go into mines. The robot is entirely enclosed and can be used in all weather conditions. The wheels are axle mounted and supported using two sealed ball bearings. Each of the four axles are driven by a large and powerful IG42 Gear motor via chains to yield a smooth and slip free mode of operation. The ends of the shafts are exposed on the inside if you wish to mount encoders to them. There are side access panels that allow easy assembly of the motor and belts and adjustment of the chain tension. The motors and transmission allow this robot to climb walls. The wheels of this robot are our Tamiya 6.75" Dia. All-Terrain Tires. The wheel hubs have a hex coupling that matches to our axles for a slip free engagement. The robots dimensions are ~23" wide and ~20" long (wheel to wheel edge). The robot has a ~2.5" clearance. The height of the robot is ~7.5" from the ground, with the camera dome ~11.5". The chassis is ~14.5" wide x ~18.25" long.

The frame is made of 1/8" thick aircraft grade aluminum. The design uses all laser cut parts with mortise and tenon design for precise alignment and mating of the parts. The covers are tinted acrylic that is also laser cut to match the holes of the mating flanges that are tapped after the laser cutting. A galvanized metal cover for shielding EMF is provided for going over the four motors which are mounted in the center. A middle tray is also provided that mounts on top of the motors for mounting your batteries, camera system, and/or electronics too. The chassis is completely welding using TIG and MIG. Gaskets are also provided for sealing the acrylic covers.

The kit provides you with what you need to make a great enclosed All-Terrain robot. Below are many options to make the robot a RC unit, or just power it with PWMs and use a microcontroller. We include a bunch of hardware and electrical wires, fuses, switches, connectors, motor hookup kits, etc to get you going. We also offer assembly of this robot kit. When you purchase this kit you will get access to our assembly manual that contains color images and step by step instructions. Motor Selection:

For the motors, the standard motor is our 252 RPM motor, but you can also opt for the 122 RPM motor if you want a more power and a less speed. We also offer the 75 RPM motor for a whole lot of power and a even slower speed. If you want to use encoders, we offer a 252 RPM motor with encoders that will fit in the robot.

Battery Options:

For the motor batteries, you can choose for one or two of our 24V batteries. Battery life depends greatly on how you use the robot, what terrain you use it in, how often and sharp you turn (since its skid steering which draws considerable power), etc. A single battery can last from 1/2 hour to 4 hours depending on usage.

RC Controller:

For the RC Controllers, you can choice any of these controllers. You need 2 channels to control the robot drive functions. Our Aggressor Pistol radios offer a great way of controlling your robot. If you want to control lights or other functions, you should get a higher channel radio. If you plan on adding camera pan and tilt or other options you should get at least a 4 channel controller. Our digital QPCM (Quick Pulse Controlled Modulation systems offer better stability around noisy motors and feature fail safe modes for when the receiver is out of range.

We also carry the Spektrum Radios which we have had outstanding results with. We sell the Spektrum systems with the fail safe BR6000 Bot Receiver. With the spread Spektrum frequency hopping DSM2� technology we get great range and reliability regardless of the other 2.4GHz systems around like routers and phones. The other benefit of 2.4GHz is most motor noise and mechanical noise/interference is well below this frequency, which often causes issues with the 72 and 75MHz radio systems.

RC and Motor controller interface Options:

The RC interface takes the RC receiver signal and drives the motors, servos, outputs, etc. See our RC support page for more details. We offer many different options for this control interface. The MD22 Devantech Dual Motor Driver and the Sabertooth Dual 10A Motor Drive are an all in one packages. It interprets the RC signal and has a 2 channel motor controller on board. We have also developed our own RC interface board. The RC interface offers better noise filtering and lost signal handling dramatically increasing the effective range and control over the MD22 or Sabertooth. Additionally, it drives relays so you can drive high current loads with the RC such as a motor (fwd/off/rev) and or lights (on/off)

Alternatively, if you just want to drive the robot via a microcontroller or other device, you will need motor controllers, but you will not need the RC interface. Motor controller options are listed at he bottom of this list. For more support see our Motor Controller Support Page.

Front Embedded Halogen Light Option:

This option provides you with two embedded halogen lights with a borosilicate glass cover (thermal shock resistant). This option has to be ordered at the time the robot kit is ordered since it involved a different front panel that is welded into the chassis. The option also includes a 12V 4000 mAHr battery for running the lights.

Camera Dome Option:

This option includes a 8" camera dome. The top cover is laser cut with an opening and mounting holes for the camera dome. The camera dome is 4" high. There is a large tray below the opening for mounting a camera pan and tilt system.

Foam Filled Tire Option:

This option should be selected if you wish us to fill your ATR tires with foam. The procedure can also be done by yourself and is outlined in the ATR manual. The standard tires are pneumatic and can handle the weight of the deluxe ATR with no problem, but if you want to add a bunch more batteries, or other equipment, or if you don't want the tires to give during impact you can fill the tires with foam.

Assembly:

You receive access to our fully illustrated manual that helps you assemble the robot. If you wish you can have us assemble the robot select mechanical, electrical or complete assembly. If complete assembly is selected the robot will be completely assembled and tested and will be ready to go out of the box. Assembly adds 1-2 weeks the delivery.
