This is a custom Sabertooth RC 2X10. It has been modified with a 1A 5V switching supply and programmed with more deadband and smaller limits for the Spektrum. Made by Dimension Enginnering. It is suitable for medium powered robots - up to 30lbs in combat or 100lbs for general purpose robotics.
The special R/C edition of our motor driver comes with all the standard features of the RC 2x10 controller, including an invert channel and options for exponential control, autocalibration and built-in mixing. The operating mode is set with the onboard DIP switches so there are no jumpers to lose
With the new Spektrum RC systems we found some minor issues using them. The RC signal was not as high a range for ms output and the receiver needs a little more power than 72/75 MHz radios. It is also common to add a couple servos to the receiver and the standard Sabertooth RC does not have a large enough regulator for that. So we have had these custom sabertooths made with larger 5V switching supplies and reprogrammed to work with spektrum RC systems (they will still work great with other RC systems too). This custom RC Sabertooth also has the larger heat sink than the standard RC Sabertooth. Click here for a schematic of hooking up the custom Sabertooth with a Spektrum RC Radio.
The Sabertooth can supply two DC brushed motors with up to 10A each. Peak currents of 15A are achievable for a few seconds.
Overcurrent and thermal protection means you'll never have to worry about killing the driver with accidental stalls or by hooking up too big a motor.
The RC sabertooth allows you to control two motors with radio control. Sabertooth has independent and speed + direction operating modes, making it the ideal driver for differential drive (tank style) robots and more.
Sabertooth is the first synchronous regenerative motor driver in its class. The regenerative topology means that your batteries get recharged whenever you command your robot to slow down or reverse. Sabertooth also allows you to make very fast stops and reverses - giving your robot a quick and nimble edge.
Sabertooth's transistors are switched at ultrasonic speeds (32kHz) for silent operation.
