This is our Heavy Duty ATR kit. It is an extremely rugged well built robot. It is built with the same design approach as the Enclosed HD ATR for capacity and motor connections, but does not have the enclosed shell and covers. It has the ability to drive around with very heavy loads. Look at our ATR building page and follow the various links to learn more about the robots size and capacity. The wheels are axle mounted and supported using two sealed ball bearings.

Each of the four axles are driven by a large and powerful IG42 Gear motor via a roller chain to yield a very smooth and slip free mode of operation. This robot is designed for loads greater than 25lbs. For loads greater than 40lbs you need to go with lower gear ratio motors and foam filled tires. The biggest issue with weight is pivot turns on carpet and grass takes a great deal of torque to skid steer, especially with the high traction tires we use. See our ATR page for more details.

The ends of the shafts are exposed on the inside if you wish to mount encoders to them or you can get motors with encoders on them. There are even mounts for encoders concentric to the shaft. You can also select gear motors with encoders too.

There are slots in the side panels that allow easy assembly of the motor and chains and adjustment of the chain tension. The motors and transmission allow this robot to climb walls. Two different wheel and shaft options are available with this robot. The traditional heavy duty shaft and 6.75" Tire Set or the larger heavy duty shaft and 10" pneumatic wheel set. For the 6.75" diameter wheels the robots dimensions are:

• ~20.75" wide and ~19.75" long (wheel to wheel edge)
• ~2.25" clearance..
• The height is the height of the wheels.

The robot chassis base is about 12.25" x 16.25". The frame is made of 1/8" thick aircraft grade aluminum. The design uses all laser cut parts with mortise and tenon design for precise alignment and mating of the parts. The chassis is completely welding using TIG and MIG. All the necessary hardware, bearings, chains, sprockets, etc are provided as part of the chassis. The chains provide a 10:15 reduction motor to wheel shaft.
