Building RobotsBefore It Was Cool
We’re not your typical robot startup because we’ve been doing this for more than 20 years. Over that time, we’ve built thousands of custom robots, fully assembled robots, and robot kits for nearly every industry and we have clients spanning the globe in over 110 countries.
Our mission is to make advanced mobile robots accessible.
Where It All Began
This adventure all began on BattleBots. In 2000, a group of engineers, mechanics, and machinists formed Team Half-Life and built the Atomic Wedgie, which won Season 2 Super Heavyweight finalist and runner-up.
Using the experience of building BattleBots, Charlie & Susan Payne established SuperDroid Robots in their garage building their own custom robots. The sturdy and durable construction to survive the BattleBox (arena at BattleBots) was used to create heavy-duty all-terrain robots and tactical support robots. Those custom robots led to orders for more custom robots and so on.
Why the name “SuperDroid”? Charlie’s first robot creations back in the 1970s were called “SuperDroids”. As a robot hobbyist, he continued to improve on his SuperDroids and it made perfect sense to name the company that built robots after his original creations.

Continuing the Legacy
The company (and workshop) continued to grow and grow over the years, as did the complexity of the robots the team created. We’ve built custom robots for Fortune 500 companies down to neighbors down the street, some small enough to fit in your hand to a 42-horsepower robot dubbed “Overkill”, as well as autonomous, omnidirectional, and found a niche with inspection robots.
In 2022, Charlie and Susan retired from building robots and REX Technology Solutions took the reins of the company. SuperDroid Robots is the hardware complement to REX Technology’s software offer, DesconPlus, a 40+-years-old connection engineering design software.
REX Technology carries on the tradition of building amazing custom robots, while adding more focus to solving business challenges. The SuperDroid team continues to iterate and improve the design and functionality of our Inspection Robots, Tactical Robots, and Autonomous Robots.
Moving forward, our mission is to build advanced mobile robots that are accessible. We have a culture of continuous improvement, building durable robots that work for years and provide a strong ROI.
We’re taking our most popular and versatile robots and developing them into platforms with even more features and benefits thanks to standardization and scalability.
In 2022, we shared a proof of concept for an affordable humanoid robot. In 2023, we release our first compact autonomous robot. Our bipedal humanoid robot and quadruped robot will be available in 2024.

Proudly Made in the United States (USA)
While we have robots across the globe in over 110 countries, we proudly conceptualize, design, fabricate, and assemble all of our robots in the United States of America (USA) and we’ve done so for over two decades.
American Droid is a joint venture between FusionBlue and SuperDroid Robots dedicated to enhancing public service missions and organizations.
Together, we provide end-to-end robotics from consulting and engineering to design and development at scale.
