direct drive vs. chain drive

hello,
i have a robot project and the following are the main requirements:

The robot will move in outdoor and indoor environment and it will carry load of around 8 kg. The speed is not important. Also, the robot will pass slopes (ramps). one important requirements is that it shouldn’t shake or vibrate. it should be very stable and steady while moving. also it should absorb shocks.
my question is that when i wanted to order a kit I was confused whether i should go with the Direct drive or chain drive?
what gear motor mechanism is more suitable?

chain drive is better for heavier loads because its supported by dual bearings and the load is not shared by the motor. direct drive the motor shares the load.

http://www.superdroidrobots.com/shop/custom.aspx/all-terrain-robots/42/ has a lot of information about the loading of the different shafts, and wheels.

i suppose direct drive would be a little smother because you won’t have much backlash from the chain being slack, etc.
