All SuperDroid Trekkers start with two common elements.� (1) The Chassis, which is the base of the Trekker with the wheels and drive servos.� (2) The MCU (Microcontroller).� From there the Trekker is expanded using options of expansion boards and sensors. �For additional information on the Trekker follow these links

Need help deciding which Trekker is right for you? This page is designed to help you decide.� Follow the preceding steps.

Step 1 - The Controller or MCU

This is the brains of the Trekker.� The MCU can be programmed to make the Trekker perform autonomous tasks.� SuperDroid Robots offers a lot of example programs that can be used as the building block for your Trekker.� If you do not currently have an OOPic, you will need to order an OOPic starter package so you receive a program cable that is used to program your OOPic for your PC.� You may want to look at the features of the expansion boards and electronic kits in step 2 before selecting the MCU, the OOPic II/II+ offers the most plug and play applications/sensors with the OOPic II Ready Expansion Card - TE-001-100. �Follow this link to compare the two OOPic board types OOPic II versus OOPic-R board specifications.� The OOPic II and II+ use the same style board, the physical difference is the chipset. The Trekker can be used with one of three MCUs.� We recommend the OOPic II or II+ since the OOPic II expansion board has much more to offer (see step 2).

MCU Firmware Program method
OOPic II� B2.2.� Supports all Trekker functions and many more.� For a complete listing of OOPic Objects. Programs from PC using Basic, Java or C syntax using a parallel program cable sold with starter kits.
OOPic II+� B2.2+� Supports all Trekker functions. Has the addition of 10bit A/D instead of 8 bit.� Also included is Serial Protocol.� For a complete listing of OOPic II+ Objects. Programs from PC using Basic, Java or C syntax using a parallel program cable sold with starter kits.
OOPic R� B2.2+� Supports all Trekker functions. Has the addition of 10bit A/D instead of 8 bit.� Also included is Serial Protocol.� For a complete listing of OOPic II+ Objects. Programs from PC using Basic, Java or C syntax using a serial cable sold with starter kits or the parallel program cable

Step 2 - The expansion board/Electronics kit

These kits are made by SuperDroid Robots to allow the I/O to plug into the OOPic easily.� It supplies the power (2 4xAA battery holders) and all the necessary connections for the Trekker.� No other Robot kit offers this - an interface card to allow plug and play with your Robot!� The kits also include a CD loaded with programs, manuals, and other information.� There are 4 options for the kits

Expansion Board Type MCU Required Description Functions
Trekker OOPIC II Electronics Kit - TE-002-000 OOPic II or OOPic II+ This package is a breadboard that mounts directly to the Trekker Chassis for prototyping along with the basic electronic components to interface the Trekker to the OOPic.� The Trekker manual gives a schematic and instructions for setting up separate power supply for the 3 servos, 1 IR, 2LEDs, 1 Switch, 1 IR Ranger, and one Ultrasonic Ranger.� The board can be laid out any number of other ways too.
OOPic II Ready Expansion Card - TE-001-100 OOPic II or OOPic II+ The OOPic II Expansion board now comes fully assembled.� This package includes a custom circuit board with all the component and the hardware to interface with an OOPic II MCU No corners were cut with this package.� It contains the best components to give you reliable long lasting operation.� The board allows the following:

(1) 40 pin header and ribbon cable to connect to the OOPic.

(5) Connections for servos.

(3) Connections for the Sharp GP2D12 IR IR detector.

(3) Connections for the SRF04 Ultrasonic ranger Ultrasonic Rangers.

(2) Potentiometers read by the OOPic A/D which can be used for tuning.

(1) Connection for an LCD module.

(1) Connection for an array of 2 to 4 Line Following Sensors or Trekker wheel encoders.

(1) Connection for PhotoIC for the Trekker Ball Catcher.

(1) Connection for Trekker UVTron or Deluxe UVTron Flame detector.

(2) LEDs controlled by the OOPic.

(1) Powerful 1.5A 5VDC for the OOPic and is filtering for clean reliable power.

(1) Powerful 1.5A 6VDC regulator for the servos with a heat sink and its filtered.

(1) Power LED.

(1) Piezo beeper for audible indications.

(1) Connection for type 1 connector with our RS232 to TTL converter

(1) I2C local bus communications that can be used for the Trekker compass

- Fused battery connection.

- AC power jack.

- Voltage divider for reading input voltage with the OOPic A/D supplied to the board (battery voltage) prior to step down.

Trekker OOPic-R Electronics Kit - TE-005-000 OOPic R This package is the bare minimum to get the OOPic-R to work to drive servos on the Trekker.� The Trekker manual gives instructions for setting up separate power supply on the OOPic-R for the servos and hooking up the power to the board.� This set up will not support many of the Trekker accessories and does not provide a fused connection to the OOPic-R.
OOPic-R Ready Electronics Expansion Card - TE-006-000 OOPic R This package includes a custom circuit board with all the component and the hardware to interface with an OOPic-R MCU.� Some basic soldering skills and a soldering iron will be necessary.� (The board is spaced out to a minimum of standard 0.1" and it contains no surface mounts.)� The 6V regulator and heat sink must be soldered to the optional power supply position on the OOPic-R. No corners were cut with this package.� It contains the best components to give you reliable long lasting operation.� The board allows the following:

(4-8) Connections for servos via the OOPic-R board.

(3) Connections for the Sharp GP2D12 IR detector.

(3) Connections for the SRF04 Ultrasonic ranger Ultrasonic Rangers.

(1) Potentiometer read by the OOPic A/D which can be used for tuning.

(1) Connection for an LCD module via the OOPic-R board.

(2) LEDs controlled by the OOPic-R.

(3) LEDs/Switches via the OOPic-R board

Step 3 - Select the features you want with your Trekker

The next item to determine is what type of sensors you want.� Keep in mind that you can always add sensors and features later on.� The OOPic II/II+ Expansion board supports the most sensor options.� The kits offered are the most popular arrangement of features offered at a discounted package price.�� Refer to step 2 for selecting the expansion board that best suits your needs.� The kits all offer options and additions.� You must select 1 option (the MCU type, remember if you don’t have a OOPic program cable, select an OOPic starter package) and then select any number of additions you want or none at all.
